At Critical Systems Inc. (CSI), our dedication to precision and quality craftsmanship is evident in every weld we produce. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding process used to assemble our ArcticMax acetylene traps, critical components designed to maintain purity and performance in high-demand gas systems.

Hand welding may seem like a traditional skill in an age of automation, but when it comes to precision components like the ArcticMax, there’s no substitute for the control and finesse that TIG welding provides. Achieving a clean, consistent, and structurally sound weld starts long before the arc is struck. Setup is everything.

Our technicians follow a detailed checklist to ensure optimal welding conditions. This includes verifying proper purge gas flow through both the interior of the trap and the torch head, selecting the right torch cup size, and maintaining a sharp, correctly-prepared tungsten electrode. Even small details (such as pulse width, amperage control, and rotator speed) can mean the difference between a flawless weld and one that fails to meet our standards.

Recently, we encountered a challenge that tested our commitment to continuous improvement: how to further elevate weld consistency and meet even more demanding internal benchmarks. Rather than rely on outdated instructions or trial-and-error, we took a strategic approach. A brand-new work instruction was developed from the ground up, with a full reevaluation of purge strategies and process parameters. Adjustments were made to flow rates (CFH), welding current, pulse frequencies, and rotation timing, all with the goal of creating a repeatable, high-quality weld process.

The result was more than just improved welds. We created a fully documented, easy-to-follow work instruction that is now embedded within our Quality Management System (QMS). This ensures that every technician, regardless of experience level, can execute welds with the same precision and confidence. It also supports our broader mission of scalability, allowing CSI to maintain high standards as we grow our team and production capacity.

At CSI, we don’t just fabricate components—we engineer reliable processes that support excellence at scale. From rethinking gas purge strategies to standardizing our welding documentation, every step we take is about delivering cleaner, stronger, and more consistent results. When it comes to TIG welding for ArcticMax acetylene traps, we’ve set a new internal benchmark—and we’re just getting started.
