We recently had the chance to stop by UA Local 296 for their SWJATC Apprentice Competition that featured brazing and welding between apprentices, and it turned out to be a surprisingly exciting experience. The event had a calm, organized feel, but there was an underlying energy to it—everyone there knew this was a chance for the apprentices to show what they could do. It was well put together, with clear stations, equipment set up just right, and everything running smoothly from start to finish.
What really made it interesting was watching how each competitor brought their own technique to the table. Some moved with smooth, practiced ease, while others were more methodical and focused, carefully lining up assemblies for brazing. You could see the training and personal style in how they handled the tools, and even small differences in torch angle or filler placement stood out. No two apprentices worked the same way, which made the event very interesting.
CSI would like to give special thanks to the entire UA and all they do to support the development of a highly trained professional workforce. This work they do is fundamental to the success of our country, its businesses and the people that can and do make a difference.
